Commission Redesigns Web Site to Better Serve Consumers
Detailed Inspection Records; Revamped Design Among New Features |
(AUSTIN) — The Texas Residential Construction Commission is pleased to announce the launch of its redesigned Web site. The site offers a more user-friendly design, as well as significantly improved features — such as easy-to-use search components that reveal enhanced data — that will aid a consumer searching for meaningful information about a particular builder or remodeler.
Even finding the site has been simplified. Users can access the site at texasrcc.com, .org or .net. Individuals can also find the Web site through the state of Texas’ online portal at www.texas.state.tx.us.
Executive Director Duane Waddill said the new Web site marks a major milestone in the commission’s commitment to providing better information to all Texans. “Since the Web site is often the first place a consumer will look for information about the commission or a builder/remodeler, I felt it was very important to make that information as easy to understand and as accessible as possible,” Waddill said. “The new site is formatted to accommodate smaller monitors and fewer graphics allow a user with dial-up access to open pages as quickly as possible.”
Waddill said detailed information about a builder/remodeler’s work and commission inspection reports indicating whether or not a home had a defect are now viewable with a simple click. Additionally, copies of administrative actions taken against a registered company will be viewable.
Consumers will be pleased to see that builders and remodelers certified by the commission as “Star Builders” are highlighted with the Star Builder logo next to their company name. A builder or remodeler that qualifies for the Star Builder program must meet certain criteria regarding experience, educational levels, training, financial stability and insurance. They must also show a commitment to customer service and to tougher building standards.
“We urge all consumers to thoroughly research builders and remodelers before they ever sign a contract to buy or remodel a home. A builder or remodeler’s records with the commission provide consumers with a more complete picture and should help them as they make their decision whether or not to hire a company,” Waddill said.
Other enhanced features include a comprehensive site and builder data search engine and pages translated into Spanish. It is also the first state agency Web site to include pages specially formatted for mobile devices.
“We have tried to anticipate consumers’ desires and incorporate them into the Web site’s relaunch,” Waddill said. “But it’s an ongoing project, so if we see other ways to make the site better, we’ll make the changes and hope consumers find the updates useful.”
