| Commission Fines Builders Nearly $17,000 |
(AUSTIN) — At its April 18, 2007, meeting, the Texas Residential Construction Commission levied penalties against eight builders/remodelers. Fines averaged $2,095.
Two of the sanctioned builders, Vector Builders, Ltd., (late renewal, $2,500) and Trammell Properties, Inc., (using fraud and deceit in obtaining a registration, $1,060), are located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Three others, In-Site Design Build Studio (late renewal, $2,500), Titan Homes, Inc., (issues related to home registrations, $3,000), and Donnie Lee (late renewal, $2,500), are in the Houston area. Other builders affected include G. Allyn Homes & Co., of Bulverde (late renewal, $1,950), Mike Gonzales of Mathis (late renewal, $750) and MG Construction of Laredo (late renewal, $2,500). Commission Executive Director Duane Waddill said the fines reinforce an important message to Texans and the building industry.
“One of the commission’s primary commitments is to help ensure quality residential construction for Texans,” Waddill said. “Fining a builder or remodeler when it fails to meet its statutory obligations helps in that endeavor. The fines let everyone know that the commission is serious about enforcing its rules.
“In addition, the commission makes the information about the builder or remodeler’s failings public. A builder or remodeler who accrues fines puts themselves in an unflattering public light. The commission encourages Texas consumers to thoroughly research builders and remodelers before they sign a contract for any work,” Waddill said.
Texas consumers can research whether or not a builder or remodeler is registered and if the state has found a defect as a result of a consumer complaint and how many projects a builder or remodeler has registered by utilizing the public record search on the commission’s Web site at www.texasrcc.org.
