Commission Levies Penalties Totaling $83,000, Revokes Three Registrations, One Builder Fined $50,000 and has Registration Revoked |
(AUSTIN) — Today, the Texas Residential Construction Commission announced fines levied against eight builders/remodelers throughout Texas. The commission fined one Houston-area builder — Alramco Homes Inc. — $50,000 and revoked the company’s registration. The commission also revoked the registrations of and assessed fines to the Oria Group, Inc. of Frisco and Rice Homes, Inc. of Spring.
In all, the commission levied penalties against four Houston-area builders, two Dallas-area builders, one builder in Brownsville and one builder in Vidor.
Alramco Homes Inc. committed a number of violations earning it the largest single fine in the commission’s history. Alramco misappropriated trust funds, had unpaid civil judgments, failed to register homes and failed to remit fees due the commission. In addition to the fine, the commission revoked Alramco’s registration. Without its registration, the company cannot legally build new homes or complete remodeling projects that fall under the commission’s jurisdiction.
The remaining seven builders committed violations ranging from failing to register homes, failing to honor checks and failing to update the commission of changes to company information. (View a complete list)
Commission Executive Director Duane Waddill said the commission’s actions speak for themselves.
Waddill said, “A builder or remodeler that fails to meet its statutory obligations runs the risk of a fine or revocation. While the fines can be steep, a builder or remodeler that loses their registration can no longer operate in the state legally. It is incumbent upon every builder or remodeler in Texas to know exactly what those statutory obligations are.”
Texas consumers can research whether or not a builder or remodeler is registered and if the state has found a defect as a result of a consumer complaint and how many projects a builder or remodeler has registered by utilizing the public record search on the commission’s Web site.
