| Commission Levies More Than $33,000 in Fines, Revokes Builder/Remodeler Registration |
(AUSTIN) — The Texas Residential Construction Commission recently levied penalties against 18 builders/remodelers. The commission fined eight builders/remodelers for failing to timely renew their registrations. The commission sanctioned ten builders/remodelers for violations ranging from a failure to follow commission rules to using fraud and deceit in obtaining a registration.
The penalties totaled $33,230. In addition, the commission revoked Aaron Liverman’s registration. Liverman’s Denison-area company conducted business as Eclipse Construction. Without securing a registration from the commission, builders cannot legally construct new homes in Texas.
Seven of the affected builders are located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and four are in the Houston area. The rest are spread throughout the state. (View a complete list).
Commission Executive Director Duane Waddill said the fines and the registration revocations demonstrate the commission’s continued focus on enforcement.
Waddill said, “The commission takes its enforcement responsibilities very seriously. A builder or remodeler that does not meet its statutory obligations is risking a fine or revocation.
“In addition to any fine or revocation action, the commission also makes the information about the builder or remodeler’s failings public. A builder or remodeler with a record of fines puts themselves in an unflattering public light. And the commission encourages Texas consumers to thoroughly research builders and remodelers before they sign a contract for any work,” Waddill said.
Texas consumers can research whether or not a builder or remodeler is registered and if the state has found a defect as a result of a consumer complaint and how many projects a builder or remodeler has registered by utilizing the public record search on the commission’s Web site.
